Yates to file for District 25 Seat

  Doug Hawkins’ has a new individual to compete with in order to keep his seat in the next election. Earlier today, therealville received the following announcement via email from David Yates:

Yates to file on Thursday, January 21st

Louisville – David Yates will officially file as a Democratic Candidate for the Metro Council’s District 25 seat on Thursday, January 21st at 2:30pm.      

Joining him in filing will be a familiar face to Jefferson County voters. His grandfather Jim Yates served 22 years as State Representative for the 44th District until retiring in 1995. He and his grandson, David are no stranger to serving in public office.

            “I often accompanied him to Frankfort and throughout our community.  At an early age I witnessed the positive impact a dedicated public servant can have.” says David Yates, “I am happy to have him with me on Thursday as we get ready for another Yates to serve the citizens of Louisville.”

            David Yates will file his papers with the Jefferson County Board of Elections at 2:30pm. 

            David Yates,  born and raised in the South end of Louisville, is a graduate of Holy Cross High School, earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Louisville and the degree of  Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky, Chase College of Law.   David has worked for the Legislative Research Commission and clerked with the United States District Court before working with the Commonwealths Attorney’s Office.  David served as a Kentucky Assistant Attorney General where he represented the Commonwealth before the Kentucky Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.  David was later retained by the UAW Legal Plan where he practiced primarily in consumer protection litigation.  He is now the sole owner of a general practice law firm, teaches part-time at JCC Southwest Campus, and supports, volunteers, and participates in numerous events throughout the community.
