From Focus On The Family…

On Tuesday, the Hatch-Nelson amendment–which would have prohibited the use of federal funds to pay for abortions in the government-run health care plan–failed by a vote of 54-45 in the Senate. That means, despite the outcry of concerned citizens across the country, federal funds will be used to pay for abortions under the Senate’s polarizing version of health care reform. Senators have ignored their constituents in order to further their own agenda and pass health care reform.

Although we were not surprised by the Senate’s rejection of the Hatch-Nelson amendment, the ramifications of this vote are far-reaching for pro-life and pro-family citizens.

The Health Care Debate Continues
This debate is far from over. Seven Democrats voted for the pro-life amendment and many other pressing issues are still unresolved–including a new version of the bill that Senate leadership has just released to their colleagues, but which won’t be available to the public until it’s been given an official price tag by the Congressional
Budget Office.
