Politician Encourages Front Porch Meetings

Councilman Tom Owen (Dem.- 8th Dist.), is encouraging neighbors to meet on each other’s front porch two times in May. Citing how neighbors used to meet each other in the front yard in the “good old days”, Owen encourages neighbors to reintroduce the practice in the district.

The idea is simple: on May 12, the folks that live in odd numbered houses cross the street to visit with those in the even numbered houses, and the following week, the opposite occurs.

Mr. Owen brings up the fact that individuals throughout the city had to rely on each other after the ice storm in January for help removing trees, providing electricity, food, and commaraderieHe thinnks that  the community spirit would be reflected throughout the year if we practiced that same act throughout the year.
