No M.A.S.!

Through recent developments, it is no wonder why Dr. Gilles Maloche would desire to resign at this time. A recent federal lawsuit, and a sexual harrassment suit slapped against him and various other government officials  would cause anyone to resign- if they had placed themselves into the predicament that Dr. Maloche has. The problem with Dr. Maloche, or dare I state that one of the many problems with Dr. Maloche is the connections that he has to the mayor. Both Dr. Maloche, and the soon to be interim director, Wayne Zalinsky have been, and currently are backed by Mayor Jerry Abramson.

When asked if he was going to fire Maloche amidst all of the allegations, Jerry Abramson stated that he was not given the opportunity. That is indeed a lie. The sexual harrassment complaint by Dawn Simpson ended in January, AND it was substantiated. If the mayor does not find the opportunity to be rid of this hinderance which has defined the Metro Animal Services within nine months, then it is because the mayor does not desire to be rid of him. Further is the fact that Wayne Zalinsky, who is also mentioned in the lawsuit as he was Dawn Simpson’s attorney, is also proving to have a controversial reputation.

All the mayors men in M.A.S seem to remain unlinked to the mayor, for now. The problem is that all major links will sooner or later come home to roost. Until it does, all the kings horses and men will continue to fall, and the reputation of the city could be what breaks from it.

Then again, more is to come in the story…

Welch welcomes increased LMPD efforts in Fairdale

From the desk of Mr. Tony Hyatt, Communications Director for the Majority Caucus of the Louisville Metro Council:

Louisville — With crime down in the Fairdale area, the Third Division of Louisville Metro Police is moving forward with efforts to be stationed in more places in Southwest Jefferson County as the area grows. The Division will now have a presence in the Fairdale Resource Center.

“This is welcome news,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13). “Residents of the District will be glad to know that the Division will rotate its roll call of officers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.”

When the Old City of Louisville and Jefferson County merged respective police departments in 2003, there was a re-alignment of divisions in the newly formed Louisville Metro Police. The officers located in Fairdale moved to a facility on Dixie Highway. LMPD then began using the Fairdale Resource Center for its DARE and other crime programs.

“As we review crime patterns and how areas develop, it becomes important to ensure our patrols are for the benefit of the community,” says Major Jim Sohan, Commander of the LMPD Third Division. “Having a rotating roll call, is just another way to show our presence in the community.”

The Third Division Command staff will have offices in the building. Every Monday, Mid Watch will have roll call at the Fairdale building.  Every Wednesday will be Day Work and every Friday night will be Late Watch.

The Division Resources Officer will also be located at the Fairdale facility. DRO’s are assigned to an area to deal with parking complaints, school visits, Meth 360 presentations and crime prevention efforts.  These officers free up patrol officers from duties that would otherwise keep them off the street.

The changes are set to begin on November 2nd.

“There have been many people in Fairdale who were concerned when the police station stopped its patrol operation with merger in 2003,” says Welch. “LMPD has done a very good job of patrolling our district and Southwest Jefferson County. It is my hope this roll call rotation will reassure everyone that officers continue to do everything to make our community safe.”

The new Fairdale location for LMPD’s Third Division is in the Resource Center at Hornbeck Park, 709 Fairdale Road.”

11 Year Old Seeks Sponsors for Humanitarian Award

From the Doug Hawkins’ website:

Written by Katelin Denney

Ms. Denney and Mr. Doug Hawkins

I need a sponsor from the business community. I have a very special opportunity to receive the Humanitarian Award from K.F.P.A. (Kentucky Festivals Pageant Association) for a third year in a row. I have been nominated to receive this award because of my volunteer work in my community and throughout Jefferson County.

This past year, I have been involved with the Dream Factory, Juvenile Diabetes, American Cancer Society Fun Frolic, Junior Red Cross, and I volunteered at summer camp for St. Jude patients.  I am also involved with Girl Scouts as a summer camp junior instructor.  I go to Georgetown Nursing Home every other month to volunteer with the Dixie Babes Red Hatters.  My mom and I deliver holiday meals to local seniors and I started a project called “Katelin’s Kids” that allowed me to collect over 2700 toys and books for children of disaster relief in our state.

Parents are not allowed to sponsor so I am asking you to please consider sponsoring me. KFPA requires that I seek sponsors from the business community where I volunteer. This is to show support for my volunteer work and accomplishments. The total cost to sponsor me is $300.00. This entitles the sponsor a support page. If there is more than one sponsor then each sponsor is entitled one support page for a $100.00 sponsorship.  This is 100% tax deductible, which is a great way to show support for a future leader in our community.

I am allowed to have as many sponsors as I can as long as the required $300.00 is paid to: KFPA, PO Box 1174 Richmond, KY 40476, Attention: Dianne Turner, Director.  To pay with a credit card, please call Mrs. Dianne at Jack N’ Jill’s, 843 EKU Bypass, at: 859-624-9888.

If paying by check or credit card please put my name Katelin Marie Denney in the memo space.

Thank you for helping me in securing my sponsorship. No one has received this honorable award three years in a row and I hope to be the first.

Yours in service,

Miss Katelin Marie Denney

The Doctor Is Out- Policing May Be In

By now every one around Louisville has heard that the infamous Dr. Giles Maloche, the current director of Metro Animal Services, has resigned. His resignation will take place on December 31, 2009. His replacement, at least temporary, has been named to be Wayne Zalinsky.

Dr. Maloche has been in the public’s eye for quite some time as he has undergone various accusations and investigated for many of them. The most common accusation that has consistently been made to officials is the illegal acquiring or retrieving of animals without proper warrant(s) and the lack of due process.

Under the reigning of Dr. Maloche, the Puppy Police, (MAS), was allowed to receive a complaint and check out the complaint. Often the Mutt Mafia would enter into a premises under the guise of conducting an “investigation” and retrieve a canine, administer a ticket, and pound the animal. Pet lovers would then be forced to pay exorbitant fees and still have to go to court. Many individuals, even after paying the fees, found themselves facing charges of “Animal Neglect” or “Cruelty to Animals” and had to pay excessive fines, BEFORE going to court. When arriving at court, they would soon discover that the representatives from Metro Animal Services would ask that they admit there was a need to arrest the animal and fine the owner so that they could drop the charges. Dr. Maloche answered the accusations with stating that these procedures were necessary and legal to care for the animals.

Since announcing his resignation yesterday, many individuals with various run-ins with Metro Animal Services are very concerned about the replacement as Wayne Zalinsky has experience in law enforcement. Citizens are concerned that he will only be more aggressive in taking animals without providing proper notification and enter private property and seize animals without proper warrants. Rumors are currently circulating that Mr. Zalinsky is very closely tied into Dr. Maloche, and some are stating that he is Dr. Maloche’s “right hand”.

Mayor Jerry Abramson, who has often doted on the service of Dr. Maloche, has been very supportive and appreciative of both, Maloche and Zalinsky. Some individuals who have had business dealings with Mr. Zalinsky are very concerned of what the future may bring.

Community Service Op: Park Clean-up

From the desk of Tony Hyatt, Communications Director of the Majority Caucus of the Louisville Metro Council:

  “

Bush Honeysuckle and Privet may be two species of plants the average person is not familiar with but chances are they are in plain sight in parks and along roadways. They are known as invasive plants that can do damage to the beauty of a community.

“That is one reason why a special cleanup will get underway on October 17th because these plants can do damage to our treasured green spaces in the area,” says Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9). “We are following through with the effort of volunteers who are committed to maintaining a balance of the environment while improving safety on the road.”

Ward-Pugh and these groups are following up on the work done by about 15 volunteers of the Crescent Hill area back in April before the Derby. The first cleanup cut back many of the invasive plants along Lexington Road from Top Hill Road to  Cross Hill Road. This Saturday’s cleanup will be a second effort to get control of the problem plants—including spraying herbicides—which will ultimately keep any overgrowth off of Lexington Road which can be obstacles in the paths of vehicles and pedestrians.

The cleanup will get underway from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

“We would love to have volunteers come out and help us,” says Ward-Pugh. “Volunteers might walk away from this with a better understanding of the care our parks and natural green spaces need in order to survive in an urban setting.”

All volunteers will meet at the parking lot located in Cherokee Park at Ledge Road and Lexington Road. Gloves, tools, and refreshments will be provided. Everyone should wear long pants and closed toe shoes for the cleanup.

Please register in advance by calling Sarah Wolff at 456-8125 or emailing her at sarah.wolff@olmstedparks.org.”

No $ For Junk Pick-Up

From the desk of Tony Hyatt, Communications Director of the Majority Caucus of Louisville Metro Council:

  “

Councilman Dan Johnson is reminding residents of District 21 not to place their junk out on the curb for pickup in the coming week because no pickup has been scheduled.

“There are many people who have not received the word that the fall junk pickup was cancelled because of budget concerns,” says Johnson. “My office has received many calls about junk which has not been collected. We have had to remind them about the situation.”

In an effort to balance a $27 million deficit, the fall junk pickup was one of many services cut from the Metro Government budget. The usual mailer reminding households about collection days was not printed this year because of budget concerns.

“The only alternative right now is the free junk drop off Metro Government will hold the on October 25th at the Waste Management Landfill on the Outer Loop,” says Johnson.

The Councilman says he is also concerned residents setting junk out that will not be collected may be subject to citations from Metro Government and not realize it. Regular junk collections will resume in January of 2010. Many will be able to learn specific dates for their area in December of 2009.

“That is why it is important that the message get out and people take care of their junk now, either through the free drop off or remember that junk collections for the year are over,” says Johnson.

For more information about the free junk drop off on October 25th, call Metro Call at 311.”

Ackerson Answers Questions Regarding Resolution

The Courier- Journal released their opinion regarding Mr. Brent Ackerson’s resolution proposal as being partisan to Republicans desire, they absolutely ignored the fact that the resolution was announced, and will be presented by Mr. Brent Ackerson, a Democrat that represents the 26th District.

After receiving the media alert regarding the announcement of the resolution, Mr. Ackerson was asked a couple of questions regarding the timing of the resolution proposal. The resolution comes towards the end of Jerry Abramson’s term. When asked why the resolution proposal comes at this time, Mr. Ackerson stated that “It is about timing.  We have an administration leaving and not wanting to pass judgment on them,  and a new administration coming in, not knowing who they will be, and equally not wanting to pass judgment on them, to fully address this matter in a bipartisan non-judgmental way.”

When asked about expecting any dissention about the resolution from members in his party, Mr. Ackerson replied that “My proposal is philosophical – it is not driven by partisan politics.  I do not anticipate this being a problem with my colleagues.  If they disagree, I welcome those opinions.”

Members within his party, such as Bob Henderson, (District 14) has made statements that have provided the possibility of debate within the party. Mr. Henderson was recently quoted as stating that he believe that the voters should determine term limits. Republicans in council are in support of term limits.  The Courier-Journal has issued an opinion that mimics Bob Henderson.

The resolution is expected to be presented this week.

Why Do The Heathen Rage?

“Why Do The Heathen Rage” was a series of advertisements paid for in numerous newspapers and periodicals throughout our nation in the 1960’s specifically. The author was never found, and the articles were bounded in a book that was never copyrighted.

Because the articles still discuss matters that are relevant to the issues of today, they are posted here on this site.

October 24, 1964

Requests for information about the writer of this column have been received a number of times. A recent letter says: ‘Won’t you please tell me who you are that writes the column in each Monday’s Atlanta Journal ‘Why Do The Heathen Rage?’ (Understand in some ‘far away places’ this article appears in Monday’s Journal instead of Saturday.) I have been reading this article for quite some time and look forward each Monday and read the message to our nation, and to each individual as well. So applicable to, and so needed, by our nation today. Daily I cite friends, neighbors and family to this column as a gem from God, hidden in the rough, but to be seized with gratitude, as something to live by’

“Truly it has been said that one cannot talk long about ‘self’ without becoming vain. However, the above letter is greatly appreciated, very encouraging, and gives us quite a ‘lift.’ It is hard not to make some effort to meet this request. But it is also hard to digress even a little to talk about self when there are so many ‘gems’ from God in His Word: ‘The Law of The Lord is perfect, converting the soul… more to be desired than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb’ – Psalm 19:7. etc. “For though hast magnified thy word above all thy name’ – Psalm 138:2.

“The writer is a layman. Raised in a Christian home that was strict about ‘Singing the Song of Moses, the servant of The Lord, and The Song of The Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.’ The burden of Moses’ Song is the Moral Law of God, The Ten Commandments that reveal the very character of The Almighty. The message of The Lamb of God is deliverance from the wrath of God to ‘Whosoever Will,’ The wrath of God is due to our devil perverted nature and acts. The Lamb of God paid our penalty and offers the gift of a new heart wherein are written the Commandments of God by The Spirit of God; and also the gift of Eternal Life in the world to come, which world we enter by “falling asleep safe in the arms of Jesus; ‘ or by being ‘caught up to meet the Lord in the air when He cometh to make up His Jewels.’ (Hope we are not casting our pearls and gems before swine! We are warned against doing that. If you are a member of a Protestant Christian Church and don’t believe these things, in God’s Name, why don’t you get out? How come you’re in there, anyway?)

“The writer joined the Church when about twelve years of age. Though greatly blessed with the raising and environment he had, yet when he left school he faced the fact that he was ‘out of gear’ with real Christianity and the vows made on joining the Church. He did not want to, nor did he intend to spend his life striving to fulfill them. “Then get out,’ he said to himself. ‘Resign your Church membership, and don’t deliberately live the life of the hypocrite,’ Considering what a serious step it would be to ‘junk the hope of Eternal Life’ offered in the Bible and Protestant Christianity, he purposed before resigning to ‘Search The Scriptures’ himself- most he knew came second-handed. Since that time, many years ago now, he has read the Bible from cover to cover several times each year. Mostly it was consecutive reading, not stopping unless attention was especially arrested. For quite a while his aim was to read at least thirty minutes a day. Later he aimed at making 60 minutes out of the 1,440 minutes in every 24 hours, figuring this was not too much time for making preparation for a life that never ends, eternity.

“Not so long after beginning this exercise in ‘Searching The Scriptures’ he became definitely aware of ‘the personality of the devil and spiritual wickedness in high places,’ and that these fearful enemies were fighting to keep him away from his Creator: fighting him with questionings, doubts, unbelief and even a resentful and rebellious spirit against The Almighty Himself. Through the mercy of God, during all this fearful period he never laid The Bible aside by kept reading it, and kept on outwardly performing his vows by church attendance and striving to obey God’s Ten Commandments – common honesty and integrity required this until he resigned and got our of the Church. The Scriptures say ‘In due season you will reap, if you faint not in well doing.’ He found it to be true and in due time God’s Word became ‘quick and powerful’ in his own life and made of him a man whose greatest desire and ambition was to ‘Know God and do His Will’

For about twelve years after leaving school the writer was employed as a cotton buyer. After the boll –weevil struck and changed things in that line, he went on a farm and has been there ever since. However, as a result of his experience in ‘Searching The Scriptures’ his main interest has been in Sowing the Seeed of The Word of God’ in his own heart, and that of others: ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but b every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’  These are the first recorded words spoken by Christ after His Baptism by John the Baptist,. Several years ago God opened up the way to begin some ‘Advertising’ of The Word of God. Thank God for all those who have written or by spoken word have said the ads have been helpful and inspiring in their Christian experience. Brethren, pray for me, and pray that ‘The Word of God might have free course, and be glorified,’ It is our hope for time, and for Eternity, as individuals, as a nation, and the whole world.

“’The Greatest Weapon Ever Forged is ‘The Word of God!’ With it Christ drove off the devil when tempted in the wilderness. Every temptation was met and overcome with The Word of God: ‘It is written- it is written- it is written’

“The Next Greatest Weapon is the ‘Privilege of Prayer!’ Our Government by law has qwithdrawn these two great weapons from our schools! We suggest that all the people of God have now a special and important opportunity to use and fight with these great spiritual weapons in the coming election by voting for righteousness: ‘Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people,’ It has been suggested, and with good scriptural ground in our judgment, that our Court’s action in taking a neutral stand regarding God Almighty and withdrawing The Bible and Prayer from our children, may have resulted in God withdrawing His Presence and Protection from our nation to the place where an enemy was able to cut down the head of the nation. ‘Not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Heavenly Father’ observing and permitting.

“In the Book of Ezekiel we find that the ‘cloud’ that hovered over the mercy seat of The Ark of God, signifying the Presence of The Almighty, appeared to become restless: it moved from that place to over one of the doors: later it moved outside of the city, and then later it departed. Not long afterwards Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed!

“How would you like to legally vote as many times as you wanted to? Many would spend the day fromt the opening to the close of the polls voting as fast and as often as they could. Well, you can do that in the Government of The Almighty, the Kingdom of God. You can vote not only on election day, but every day, and Sunday, too, day and night. Regardless of what goes on around you as you sit in church you can keep voting for the right and God’s honor, and against evil. God will count every sincere vote. ‘In due season we will reap, if we faint not.’ ‘And the Lord said, – But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of The Lord. For all the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of The Lord, as the waters cover the sea.’ (Numbers 14:20; Isaiah 11:19; and Habakkuk 2:14) The knowledge of the glory of God shall fill the earth as the waters cover the sea – take heed lest at that time your ‘ignorance of the glory of God will have drowned you in perdition, hell’s lake of fire!

“’An Almighty Justice does verily rule this world. It is good to fight on God’s side, and bad to fight on the devil’s side!’

“’For nothing should the people of God more devoutly pray than that their great men might be good and God-fearing men.’”
